Classes at WCAC are centered around production projects and encompass all aspects of television program production. No matter what your age or skill level, WCAC offers the right training to help you become an active producer in local cable television.
WCAC-TV Classes:
Field Producer 101
This class provides a comprehensive overview of television program production using portable digital video cameras. Learn how to take an idea and turn it into an entertaining and informative television program. Topics covered include: scripting, storyboarding, shooting, field lighting and sound, and basic digital editing.
Studio Production 101
Learn the basics of studio production in a hands-on environment focused around a live weekly newscast. Students will develop a comprehensive understanding of television production in the studio and participate in the production of "Wellesley This Week." Topics covered include: directing a multi-camera production, studio camera operation, studio lighting and sound, and coordinating a team production.
Digital Editing 101
Bring your ideas and your videos to this class and learn the basics of editing a television program using Final Cut Pro. Students should have a basic understanding of computers prior to enrolling in this class. Topics covered include: logging and batch capturing video into a computer, digital file management, assemble and insert editing, audio mixing, working with digital video effects, and exporting digital video for the Internet.
Advanced Digital Video Editing
This class covers advanced editing techniques using Final Cut Pro, LiveType, Soundtrax Pro, and Adobe Photoshop. Students learn how to incorporate animated titles, digital still images, and music compositions into their productions. Topics covered include: multi-layer video compositing, creating and importing animated titles, composing and importing digital music, pan and scan techniques, and more. Prerequisite: Digital Editing 101.
Compressing Audio/Video for the Internet
Put your videos on "You Tube" or any web site. Learn the tips and tricks of video/audio compression. Topics covered include: understanding compression codecs, great looking video vs. small file sizes, progressive downloads, video streaming on the Internet, hosting digital video, and more. Students should bring video/audio assets to class for compression.
Authoring DVDs
Create a professional DVD using DVD Studio Pro. Students taking this class should have a good understanding of digital video editing, video compression, and digital imaging techniques. The class is project-based so students should have digital audio/video assets prior to enrolling in the class.
